| In fairness and for full disclosure, I should admit that I didn't like the book all that much. I found it slow. And I just read it about 3 weeks ago. I tried to put that opinion aside when viewing the movie but don't know if I was successful. But for a few non-substantive changes, the movie was true to the book – down to the fact that it was in Swedish, with English subtitles. No matter, I found the movie to be as tedious and anti-climatic as the novel. The acting was good, the scenes authentic. Still, for a murder mystery, it just never grabbed my attention. I left the theater disappointed, as I was after reading the book.
It's really tough to read a book that “everyone” thinks is wonderful and not like it. I have a feeling I may be in the same minority about the film. See it and decide for yourself. | First a confession: I read this book months ago, loved it, couldn't put it down; but then when I tried to re-call it before seeing the film I just couldn't! Good news: The movie is so true to the novel that I now remember ALL of the book. In fact, I can tell you that this Swedish sub-titled film was so well cast that it was as if the words came alive off the pages. The film will keep you on the edge of your seat, throughout. Don't miss this even though you may have to find an “art house” theater to see it.
