| We saw the British version of this film in 2007 and loved it (see our earlier reviews below ). Having laughed out loud at the first, I was skeptical that a remake could be as funny – especially an American remake.
Still, I watched with an open mind. I wasn't disappointed. Only slightly different, this version starts out slower and takes longer to build to a hilarious conclusion, so be patient. Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence with an all-star comedic cast do their best to recreate the original.
I think they came close; by the end I was again laughing out loud. Someday I'll have to rent both in one evening and compare. As of now I'll give a few extra points to the original. And I'll bet that if you haven't seen the first, you'll be rolling in the aisle during this one. | A large cast of very funny actors brings this remake of a British film from 2007 back to the big screen. The movie has a bit of a slow start with some funny scenes but it takes a good while to “take off”. Once it does, look out- it's “rolling in the aisles” funny indeed. If it can go wrong at a funeral, it will and you will find yourself laughing out loud at the antics of such funny guys as James Marsden, Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock. Rent the original and see this one; compare British humor with good old American humor. See who wins!
