| “Rolling” is a street term for using ecstasy, a controversial drug illegal in most of the world. The film centers on a real life event – the involvement of Hasidic Jews in smuggling the drug into the US (hence “Holy”). An engaging film more interesting for its revelations of the connection between the Hasidic community and ecstasy than the artistic quality of the movie.
| First Time director Kevin Asch said he has been “working” his entire life to do a film of this caliber. And what a hit he has on his hands. Screened at the 2010 Sarasota Film Festival this story, inspired by true events, tells the disturbing tale of an Orthodox Jew who gets swept up in an ecstasy drug ring operating out of Brooklyn in the late 1990's. Asch is able to make the audience feel the pain of the family and friends as this young man turns his back on his sheltered upbringing. Wonderfully done; look for it this spring/summer in theaters near you!
