| Captures the culture and milieu of the Ozarks. Jennifer Lawrence as protagonist demanded attention - in the script and on screen. A strong screenpay holds our attention even though the ending is evident ab initio. | Screened at the 2010 Sarasota Film Festival. The brutality of being “dirt poor” is portrayed so very well in this story ,adapted for the screen from the novel of the same name. Jennifer Lawrence starred in the powerful lead as the oldest daughter in a family with a mother who is mentally ill and a father who is missing. It fell to “Ree” (Lawrence) to raise her two younger siblings , care for her mother, and locate her father-to save the family farm. Filmed on location in the farmlands of Missouri with many locally cast performers, the viewer is struck by the desperation of the area and the folks living there. Truly a well done film.
