Movie Reviews - Two for the Show

The Extra Man

Movie Review by Phil & Carol
Phil - Must See Now!Carol - Must See Now!
Perhaps sitting two seats behind Kevin Kline has biased me,but I found the film immensely entertaining. Billed as “an adult comedy”, the marketing phrase translates to a very funny film that uses wit and intellect to make you laugh, rather than prat falls and toilet humor. Superbly cast, after seeing the film I could imagine anyone other than Kline in the lead role of Henry Harrison, the penultimate “extra man” - the male escort of ederly, wealthy women who have long outlived their first (and sometimes second) husbands. An exceptional comedy that will keep the intellect “rolling in the aisle”. Having seen the movie, I can't imagine anyone playing Henry Harrison other than Kevin Kline. A creative script, a great cast (Paul Dano is perfect as a feckless pawn to Kline's saber sharp wit) and tight directing bring about one of the more entertaining comedies in recent memory;. This truly delightful film was the opening selection of the 12th Annual Sarasota Film Festival. Based on the novel by Jonathan Ames, prepare to be laughing out loud to the antics of Kevin Kline, Paul Dano and John C. Reilly. A true gem of a movie, it takes place in NYC where 2 unlikely fellows end up sharing a room and getting involved in each others lives. Poignant and funny at the same time, you are sure to love this film. Screened at 2010 Sarasota Film Festival
