Edge of Darkness

Movie Review by Phil & Carol
Phil - Wait for the VideoCarol - Don't even rent it
Unfortunately the Mel Gibson of Lethal Weapon fame appears gone forever. For whatever reason, Edge of Darkness can’t compare with any of the Lethal Weapon films mostly because of the failure of Gibson to imbue his character with the humor and charm of his previous characters. Edge of Darkness seems forced and trite, too close to Taken, out just last year and starring Liam Neeson. Perhaps Gibson’s personal “issues” are interfering with his acting. He definitely seems to have lost his ability to make people laugh. Phil says I was slanted in my opinion when I entered the theater so I was extra cautious to try to view this film objectively. So when I tell you it isn't worth it, believe me. If you took out the objectionable language and cut back on the violence, it is, at best, a movie for late night TV. The storyline when reviewed doesn't make sense and the little snippets of conversation that Mel Gibson has with his deceased daughter don't add the “tenderness” that the director was after. Forget about it!
