| Robert Di Nero has recently been in some silly comedies –don’t mistake this for one. A poignant and moving film, on the edge of melodrama, that will keep most of the audience in tears from the midpoint on.
A film about the baby boomer’s hopes and dreams for their children; and the results of those demands. De Nero captures the essence of a generation with his facial expressions alone.
An intense film that, if it gets a nomination for best picture, will probably win. Di Nero, too, should be in the mix for an Oscar.
| Sometimes everything comes together so perfectly in a movie that it is a joy to watch. This is the tender journey of a man trying to connect with his adult children after the death of his wife. Sometimes the story has you laughing; sometimes crying. Robert De Nero is superb and his supporting cast of Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, and Sam Rockwell keep the action flowing. Just a wonderful movie that is sure to delight, especially the 60+ year olds in the audience. I couldn’t stop talking about it on the walk home.
