| So how many disaster movies can you fit on the head of a pin? At first blush, it seems like every year there are 2 or 3, usually during summer months. Yet, this actually isn’t the case-some years there’s many, some not. In any event, this one doesn’t compare. Or maybe its just me, growing up in the 50’s gave us lots to scream about; and I guess since then, all the rest are just faded copies-even with “fx”. Seriously, save your money and rent a disaster movie from the 50’s (When Worlds Collide) (1951), (War of the Worlds)(1953),(Them!)(1954), (The Blob)(1958). AH! those were the days - the world “took a licking and kept on ticking”. | Another end of the world flick you say? How can we endure it? Well, this is just chockfull of special effects, harrowing plane rides, fun car chases. So endure it you can. The biggest problem, as I see it, is the 2 ½ hours it goes on. Other than that, if you put your reality in your pocket, you are in for a fun ride. |
