| An unrelentingly bleak movie, shocking and depressing in its honesty. Yet those viewers who bear with it will be rewarded, not only with a hopeful ending but with exceptional performances capped by a potential Oscar-winning role by (of all things!) a stand-up comedian Mo’Nique.
| Although the subject matter is tough to see it is an important film. Too many of us live is a bubble while the “real” world tends to spin out of control. Here a very overweight teenager is horribly abused and struggles to wrench her way out of the life that has been presented to her. Outstanding performances by newcomer Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe and Mo’Nique make this an emotional experience for the audience and you will find yourself rooting for the “good guys”.
