An interesting, if not engaging, film loosely based on the legal proceedings resulting from the leak of the identity and CIA affiliation of Valerie Plame. Perhaps a bit melodramatic, but the script and acting accurately portray the risks and consequences a journalist faces if she wants to protect a source and defend the First Amendment. Kate Beckinsale’s leading role overwhelms the rest of the cast, including that of Alan Alda.
| Although this didn’t make it to the “big screen” and went right to DVD, it is worth renting. It claims to not be based on any real event although it is very similar to the outing of an undercover CIA agent and the jailing of the reporter for contempt of court. Kate Beckinsale, Alan Alda and Matt Dillon team up to give outstanding performances. Although there is little “action” the storyline moves along and chimes in with a powerful conclusion.
