Julie & Julia

Movie Review by Phil & Carol
Phil - Must See Now!Carol - Must See Now!
Extrinsic evidence says this is a chick flick-I was the only male out of 30 to 35 people in the theater where I saw the film. And Carol, at a different location, went to the movies with 12 other girlfriends! I concede, that if I didn't do movie reviews, and if Carol hadn't insisted in seeing this film, I would've watched G.I.Joe. And I would have missed a great experience. Amy Adams was wonderful as Julie, the young would be writer who decided to cook every recipe in Julia Child's book in one year; while Meryl Streep may just garner her 16th Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the famous author/TV cook . The combination of great acting, good directing, and excellent editing makes for an entertaining movie. I am glad that my hobby of movie reviewing required me to see this film-one that I might not have otherwise chosen. Sometimes life's best experiences come unexpectedly; this was one such occasion. A delightful summer film based on the autobiographical book by Julie Powell who spends a year cooking every recipe in Julia Child’s famous cookbook. Meryl Streep has absolutely nailed the role of Julia starting with the “look” and ending with the voice. What a range of acting skills this woman has. Amy Adams as Julie is simply delightful as she stumbles through her year of emulating Julia in the kitchen and in oh so many other ways. See it; you’ll love it.
