| When going to a movie about a young cancer patient, the audience anticipates that it will be sad. On the other hand, intentionally milking every scene for the maximum amount of tears does nothing to show acting, directing or script writing ability. If you go, bring a box of tissues and then decide if this is just melodrama for melodrama’s sake; or a good movie. I can’t tell.
| The book that this film is based on was a real tear-jerker. I knew that the movie, simply given the nature of the storyline, would also require a boxful of tissues. What I didn’t expect was for it to be so melodramatic and over-acted, as to make it seem interminable. Every scene was drawn out. Every character was over “developed”. Even the musical score was overdone. While expected in the book, it is just too much for the film.
