| Very reminiscent of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the remake of War of the Worlds. Deemed an “action or “thriller” movie by some, I’d put it in the Sci-Fi category because its way too slow to be an action flick, and after the first half hour, too long to be a thriller. Most of the blame should go to the director, but Cage tends to help push the melodrama over the top.
| On several levels I was looking forward to seeing this film. I was hopeful that Nicholas Cage would finally stop disappointing me, that Rose Byrne (TV’s Damages) would make a splash on the big screen, and that I would be kept hanging on the edge of my seat Alas, none of the above happened and in fact the story just collapsed in the end. It was as though no one could figure a plausible ending ; so they just went for the dumb one. Oh my.
