| Most surprising about this R rated “art house” film is the celebrity of the actors. Rarely do actors at the height of their careers chance a limited release film such as this. Filmed in cinéma vérité style, it is high drama at its best.
| What keeps you in your seat is the tension that pulls through this otherwise dark, and sometimes ordinary, story. Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltro lend star power to the film and it is definitely needed. Director James Gray fails to keep the pace of the film such that you aren’t ready for the climax 30 minutes before it happens. It is almost a relief to get to the end and be able to get up!
