| My rating on the film has more to do with the technology than the substance. Coraline is a fun children’s film made exciting because of the new “3-D” process.
In film 3-D is used to describe any type of visual presentation that attempts to create an illusion of depth (the third dimension), as seen by the viewer. With the advent of digital photography and projection, many believe 3-D will eventually become the norm; changing the motion picture experience as dramatically as did Technicolor. While that remains to be seen, there are some aspects of the 3-D experience in Coraline that are visually stunning.
Go for the experience and bring a 10 year old along for the fun of it.
| This is really the “start of something new”. Digital 3-D is the newest technology in filmmaking today and this animated film, based on the popular children’s novel of the same name, is a wonderful beginning. Step into the world of 3-D but be prepared to spend a bit more for the thrill. It is not meant for the very young - the movie is an hour and 40 minutes long. Your favorite child will have to be familiar with the story or have a long attention span.
