| Set for release this later this year, the film is adapted from the novel written by Anne Michaels. Long, ponderous and melodramatic, the film has flashes of brilliance in helping the audience experience the post traumatic stress of war and violence. While some may refer to it as “beautiful”, for me its value is its ability to create depression that was palpable in the theater. Still others may have a better impression – this film was the opening night feature at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival.

| The title is telling as to how this story is told. We are taken for a slow journey through the life of a little boy who is a survivor of the Holocaust. As the pieces unfold, the audience is treated to wonderful acting and directing. For the Art House set, this will find a strong audience but don’t look for it in the mainstream theaters.
