Gone Baby Gone, an urban mystery directed by Ben Affleck, (Casey’s brother) is a gritty drama filmed in Boston – like the Departed and Good Will Hunting. Like many dime store novels, this film introduces us to a neophyte private detective (Affleck) in need of both money and a reputation. Accepting possibly the biggest case of his career, he doggedly persists when all others would have given up. The film, like a multilevel morality play, presents our protagonist with opportunity after opportunity to choose between right and wrong. The problem for the detective, and the value of the film, is not in the choice, but the determination of what’s right and what’s wrong. Casey Affleck’s portrayal makes each viewer live the dilemma.
| Here we have a look at the seedier side of life. Picture this: Boston, drugs, tough language. And right in the middle of it all , Casey Affleck giving another terrific performance as a hard-hitting private-eye and a very sweet lover at the same time. And then you add Ed Harris who is a real mystery personality. Put that all together with a terrific twisting, turning story and you have a VERY good flick!
