| A well scripted “murder mystery” that starts out showing us the murder. Anthony Hopkins makes this film. Here he plays a wealthy, methodical killer that represents himself and finds multiple cracks [fractures?] in the State’s case.
Ryan Gosling, recently nominated for his role in Half Nelson, plays an effective foil to Hopkins. Kudos to the composer – the musical score adds another dimension, keeping us on the edge of our seat from beginning to end.
| Is it because you are expecting an Anthony Hopkins film to be tense; or is it the music from the very beginning of this particular movie? I don’t know but I was exhausted from tension by the end of the film. Admittedly Hopkins is playing “Hopkins” but how can you complain when he is just so perfect. Ryan Gosling steps up to the proverbial plate and swings a homerun as the embattled prosecutor facing Hopkins. Don’t miss it. It is pure entertainment.
