Moviegoers who follow my reviews know I give extra credit for the unusual, for the plot or screenplay that steps outside the normal template. So extra credit for this film – kudos to the writers for giving us a new plot to follow. Sure the protagonist prevails, but the hero is a believable handicapped individual; and the script is logical, consistent and very plausible. This could be classified as a “sleeper”. Excellent acting and a very strong screenplay combine to bring us the story of a young man who is mentally challenged, due mostly to his own foolishness. The story is “long” in development so the beginning is slow. The director takes his time developing the characters but it is done well and when the action begins, you are engaged fully with the story. It hasn’t, apparently, gotten a lot of publicity but perhaps word of mouth will help it along. Directed by: Scott Frank
