| Excellent. A film version of a ‘police-procedural’ novel. Takes the viewer step by step through the almost quarter century of investigation needed to identify the infamous San Francisco serial killer. Robert Downey, Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Ruffalo all give exceptional performances capturing the maddening obsession needed to apprehend a clever, but genuinely evil, killer.
| Right from the beginning, when the film indicates that it is based on “actual events,” I should have known I was in trouble. The story, although true, is very complicated and not clearly tied together. It is better left to a rental so you can “page back” to review who is who, and what events happened when.
