| An interesting, exciting, creative film designed to have the audience think about sex, religion and race. Sometimes subtle, sometimes explicit, the writer-director Craig Brewer challenges us to decide for ourselves the right and wrong, the protagonist and antagonist.
Set in the “poor” South in current times, the film harkens back to many sexually charged dramas. While the sex is in the foreground, the more interesting conflict between right, wrong and religion subtly develops, then boils over to become the main theme.
Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci provide the sexual and emotional tension necessary to make this movie more than the sum of its parts.
| Likened to “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” this edgy, sexual, racial drama is terrific. Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci give “award winning” performances as the black farmer who is suspicious of the white world and the pretty young wild-thing, respectively. Their relationship and how it progresses makes for a very interesting and tense drama.
