| Will Smith gives a strong performance in a serious role. We haven’t seen him in a while – at least in anything memorable. His previous best was Men In Black. Here he and his son give outstanding performances in a movie that gives all of us something to think about. Perhaps a little melodramatic, but that’s the whole idea.
| Another in a glut of “based on true story” films that we have been deluged with this year. This however, is one of the better acted ones and it makes it definitely worthwhile. Will Smith is just terrific as the down and out father who wants a better life for his family and isn’t afraid to work for it. His real life son, Jaden Smith, plays his on-screen son and the chemistry between the two is special. Even if you “know” the story, a combination of excellent acting and direction makes for a singular theater experience.
