| By the time the film opened where we could see it, it had received numerous accolades, awards and praise. Maybe that’s why I was disappointed; or it could be because it’s a black and white silent film (with some sub-titles shown as screen placards).
In any event, it’s different, it’s an anomaly, and has both historic and theatrical value. Still there’s no way I would have nominated it for an Oscar as “best picture,” and I will be both surprised and disappointed if it wins that award. See it and decide for yourself.
| Honestly, this is probably the first “silent, full length film” that I have ever seen. To be able to understand what was happening and feel the storyline unfold was quite amazing. The acting and directing were superb but I really wouldn’t want to return to “silent films” as a regular occurrence. I enjoy the dialogue and other special effects of modern film too much to give them up.
